Meet Our Makers

All of our makers are members of the Craft Potters Association and each of them have a story to tell.

Kyra Cane

Kyra Cane grew up in the small Nottinghamshire town of Southwell in the East Midlands and attended Camberwell College of Art and Craft in the early 1980’s to study Ceramics. Kyra now works from her studio based on the Welbeck Estate, Nottingham.

Josie Walter

Josie Walter became passionate about clay in 1976 when she enrolled on the Studio Ceramics course at Chesterfield College of Art. After three years of throwing, building kilns, visiting potters and generally being immersed in pottery, she opened a workshop in Matlock with a fellow student.

Barry Stedman

After a career in retail, Barry discovered the joy of working with clay through evening classes, and soon realised he wanted to explore further and learn as much as possible. He then gained a place on the ceramics course at the University of Westminster, Harrow.

Sarah Walton

Sarah has been a potter for 45 years and also makes work in oak, lead and cast iron. She trained in painting at Chelsea School of Art between 1960-64 after which, she spent five years working as a nurse. This period was followed by studying at Harrow where she graduated in 1973 with a Diploma in Studio Pottery. Sarah undertook apprenticeships with David Leach and Zelda Mowat.

Irena Sibrijns has been a potter for over thirty years. Inspired by an avid interest in 20th century English decorative arts tradition Irena creates exquisite, and entirely unique, ornamental and functional pieces with equal enthusiasm.

David Allnatt

David was born in South London and trained in Graphics and 3D design. After working in art education for many years, specialising in ceramics, he took early retirement to concentrate on his own work and established his own workshop in the Forest of Dean where he now produces a range of hand-built ceramics.
